From Script To Screen - Reflective Statement

This project has presented an entertaining and gripping experience for me, being able to run with ideas only constrained by a time scale of two minutes, a chosen object, location and profession has given me a boundried area in which my ideas can flourish without becoming too outlandish. Its been fun creating ideas around the words (Watch Maker, Factory and Telephone), I came up with six one-line plots on which to present and elaborate on. Settling on my most plausible and one I expanded it to create my final script, premise and logline, also when I coined the title 'Get With The Times!'.

Drawing and design for my world proved more of a challenge than conjuring Narrative. It was important for me to create a world which I felt really communicated the idea of my story visually. Taking suggestion of economical set design allowed me to focus more on the characters which appears in the animation so most of my time was spent there designing them. I went through countless designs for my characters in an effort to create the correct ones, and I felt this wouldn't have been achieved without sacrificing time in other places, for example the set design and more importantly the further development of the characters, almost no design went into developing their colours, or personalities. A flaw with I have recognised as intrinsic to the process and something I intend to work much harder on developing sooner in the future.

My Narrative required a lot of time, so I feel there is an issue with my ability to manage and foresee a time constraint, this is something I feel was inevitable. Something I need to pay more attention to in the future. I believe given an extension of time this animation would have worked very well as I felt it incredibly hard to set the tone and pace which I required for suspense and humour.

To improve next time on this project I believe I need to work harder and faster at creating characters with substance, and exhaust experimentation with them sooner rather than later. I need to realise time scales and work out a real-time plot which fits better to convey the pace which I desire, I need to improve my digital artistry to convey more than a sub-par level of visual communication and finally I feel that I need to communicate more with others on the course, tutors and students. This could have led to interesting new realisations in mine and others stories, improved feedback and better cohesion.
